Today I have sent out invitations to:

David Lynton

Wan Lee

Karen Johnson

Joanne McConnell

Blog exercise 13: changing the arrangement of your blog

Changing the arrangement of my blog

I changed the arrangement of my blog by adding a gadget. After looking through some really cool and helpful gadgets to have I decided on adding a search box.
I thought this would help the readers of my blog find a post a lot faster than having to sift through lots of posts until they find exactly what they are after.

Blog exercise 12-changing the colour of your blog

Changing the colour of my blog!

Something as simple as the colour or your background can express the feeling of your blog. I changed mine to aqua, which is one of my favourite colours!

Investigative exersise 11: Recommendations

These are the recommendations i would make about the use of 2.0 technologies in my individual library service.

Whilst my particular library service has great Web2.0 technologies available to the general public, I have noticed the lack of targeted group platforms.
So, here are the following recommendations to the three groups I felt had the least amount of information and inclusion.

Children’s

The hennepin County Library has a vimeo page which I noticed the City of Sydney doesn't
https://vimeo.com/hclibThis page would be very helpful for parents to view actual storytime from the library.

Recommendation

I recommend that City of Sydney creates a Vimeo page to include recordings of events such as storytime, this would assist parents to find out more about it or if they cant attend they would be able to watch it with their child at home.

Teenage/Youth

The Hennepin County library's Facebook page is great! It is very interactive and informative with the community. For example
https://www.facebook.com/hclibhas a great article on not only encouraging youth to get tutoring but also advertising the community to volunteer as tutors to help the youth.

Recommendation

I recommend that City of Sydney library uses advertising to engage with the community on a more personal level to help the youth receive free tutoring and to encourage the public to get involved.

Adult Fiction

The Christchurch City Facebook page offers great information about adult fiction for example they have an article on new adult fiction releases every month

https://www.facebook.com/ChristchurchCityLibraries

Recommendations

I recommend that the City of Sydney library offers an article on their Facebook page to keep the adult fiction fans up to date with new releases.

Investigative exercise 10: Evaluation

Write a substantial post about the use of 2.0 technologies in your individual library service.

There are many diverse types of Web2.0 technologies in my individual library service The City of Sydney. Although each Web 2.0 technology is quite different, the information is very broad. Each platform releases a broad range of information and not targeted to any particular group. But I will list what I think would be the best 2.0 technology for each group.

Information/Reference
Follow us on Twitter for community news, events, and to get in touch with our Customer Service team (we’re on Twitter Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm).
Twitter is a great platform for the general public to access information via the Customer Service team.
Local Studies
Follow us on Facebook for highlights of what’s happening in the City, fabulous images from the Archives and to catch a glimpse of the energy and diversity of our villages.
The Facebook site delivers great information on local studies including historical archival information.
Teenage/Youth
Follow us on Instagram for behind the scenes, on the ground pics and special Sydney moments as they happen in our beautiful city.
Although, not specifically targeting teenage/youth information. Instagram seems to be more popular amongst the teenage/youth demographic.

Investigative exercise 9 : You and Social Media

Instagram is my main/favourite social media tool. I only really use it to post pictures of my artworks and connect to other artists. It is a great platform to use in this context and very exciting when people like your pictures and start following you, givong a great boost of confidence on what your creating. It is also really interesting to follow people who you are inspired by so when you check your feed everyday you find lots of inspiring pictures.

Exercise 8 : CURRENT AWARENESS POST

As somebody who doesn't have a Facebook account because of privacy beliefs. I could really identify with the 'Privacy Matters' clip. I think that more people should be educated in privacy settings if they are on Facebook. There are many users who are extremely naive when it comes to privacy settings on social media, not knowing the potential dangers of hackers.

Investigative exercise 7 : Podcasts

I went to the National Library of Australia

https://www.nla.gov.au/audio/the-shrieking-sisterhood

THE SHRIEKING SISTERHOOD - stories of the suffragette movement.

This podcast was recorded on the 10th of June 2016 By Dr Anne Summers AO and Dr Beatrice Bijon as they discuss the suffrage movement in Australia and early 20th century womens suffrage material that is held in the libraries collection.

Investigative exercise 6 : Wikipedia

As an avid researcher of anything that interests me, i use wikipedia frequently.
During this time i have noticed that there are some serious issues of unreliability and inaccurate information. I think that the libraries iniative to improve accurate information on Wikipedia is a great service to the community. Due to the high volume of users on that site it would be great to improve reliability of correct accounts and information on a giant scale such as this.

Investigative exercise 5 : Social networking

In this current time, the participation of libraries on social media sites are definately a good idea.
It is a good idea because it keeps the library revant and up to date with the community. Through social media tools like Facebook libraries can reach people that they may not have been able to reach before. Through Facebook events, libraries can inform the community about important events. The use of social media can help the library interact with the community through sharing and comments.

Investigative execise 4 : Youtube

Investigative exercise 3 : Photosharing and Flickr

https://m.flickr.com/photos/ultimotafelibrary/5433157764/

This photo is from the Ultimo TAFE Library and it shows the International meeting place in the library. It is very helpful for international students.

Investigative exercise 2 blogs

I really enjoyed reading the Librarian in Black blog.
One post that really interested me was the Annual Ehles-Danlos Awareness Month obligatory post because she conveyed how this particular syndrom effects her daily life and also explained what the syndrome is for people like myself who have never heard of this syndrome.

Investigative exercise 1

My understanding of web 2.0 before this subject would be 'what is that?' But now knowing that it is another term for Social media i understand.
It has been very insightful to find out that libraries use web 2.0 tools as a main advertizing/interective/informative way of connecting with its users.
Libraries commonly use Facebook, Flickr and Youtube.
